SpooKitties
Inspired by my favorite animal (cats) and my favorite holiday (Halloween), came the SpooKitties! I also sometimes call them “ChonKitties” because of their chonky shape. This is still one of my favorite spooky plushies I’ve made!
Here’s the behind the scenes video of how I made the candy corn cat and the behind the scenes video on the witchy cat.
For one of the cats, I thought the shape of its body could double as a candy corn, so I definitely wanted to make a candy corn version. Since candy corn is white on the top, I thought it could be a white cat with an orange and yellow sweater.
Although in my original concept sketch, I didn’t give them arms or legs, I realized that to really give off the sweater vibe, I should make little nubs in the white color. This was also the first time I utilized bobbles for a plushie pattern.
The head looked a little empty, so I wanted to put something on the head! I thought about candy pumpkins, which seemed perfect for the color scheme.
Of course, black cats are already a symbol of spooky season, so I had to make a black cat version! Fun fact, one of the reasons that I really started loving cats was because of a black kitten named “Spooky!” I gave it a witch hat as well since the candy corn cat had a pumpkin on its head.
Then it was onto testing! Here are the cats made by my 9 wonderful testers.
You can now make a spooKitty too with my PDF crochet pattern! Find the pattern here or on Etsy! You can also get this pattern and all my other premium patterns by joining my Patreon.
